Sega, SNK, and other Japanese companies announce E3 alternative NGPX

Another livestreaming expo to add to the list

A number of primarily Japanese publishers have announced the New Game+ Expo, promising new game announcements and live demos.

Even before E3 was cancelled it was obvious that this year’s reveal season was going to be unnecessarily complicated, with so many different companies putting on their own separate events.

Things have got so out of control now that the whole three months between June and August is stacked with livestreams, trailer unveils, and vague promises. But one we’re actually looking forward to now is New Game+ Expo (NGPX).

NGPX brings together 14 publishers who often get overlooked when it comes to E3 and while there are no specifics they’re promising ‘new title announcements and live gameplay demos’, as well as live Q&As on Twitch.

The full list of companies involved are as follows:

  • Acttil
  • Aksys Games
  • Arc System Works America
  • GungHo America
  • Idea Factory International
  • Inti Creates
  • Koei Tecmo America
  • Natsume
  • Nippon Ichi Software America
  • Playism
  • Sega of America (including Atlus)
  • SNK Corporation
  • Spike Chunsoft
  • WayForward

The showcase starts on Twitch at 4pm BST on 23 June, with a live broadcast running afterwards from 5pm to midnight.

That seems to mean that all the most important announcements will be made in the first hour, so that’s something.

No More Heroes creator Suda51 will also be there, since his studio Grasshopper Manufacture is owned by GungHo, but as with most of these companies it’s currently impossible to guess what he might be there to talk about.

‘As a gamer myself, I’m incredibly excited to see what will be on display,’ he said.

‘We must never doubt the power that video games bring to gamers offering us vitality and energy for tomorrow. Let’s get charged up while staying at home!’

What secrets will they have in store?
