Apex Legends coming to Switch and Steam in autumn with cross-play

Apex Legends will be expanding this autumn, with releases on Switch and Steam, as well as cross-play.

It wasn’t surprising to see Apex Legends featured as part of EA Play, with a new event called the Lost Treasures Collection Event beginning in a few days.

But EA and Respawn had a much bigger announcement waiting in the wings, namely that the battle royale will be coming to both Steam and Nintendo Switch later in the year.

Not only that, but EA will be implementing cross-play around the same time, so everyone can play together regardless of which platform they’re on.

EA seems to be embracing cross-play for all of its upcoming titles, including Star Wars Squadrons and FIFA 21, although the latter won’t be available at launch.

Surprisingly, there was no mention of bringing Apex Legends to next gen hardware, namely the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, although that’s probably inevitable at some point.

As for the Lost Treasures event, it will be running from 23 June to 7 July and brings back the Armed and Dangerous mode for a limited time, which only allows sniper and shotgun weapons.

It will function a little differently this time, though, with only Evo Armour being available, meaning you will need to duke it out with your opponents to reach the higher armour tiers.

A full list of details about the event can be found on the official website.

Apex Legends is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via EA Origin. It will release on Switch and Steam in the autumn.
