PlayStation 5 Custom Covers Are Already Available

The PlayStation 5 teardown Sony recorded told us a lot about the internals of Sony’s new machine, but it also showed accessory manufacturers how easy it is to remove the bright white casing covers. The end result? Unofficial custom covers have appeared ahead of the console’s launch.

As Engadget reports, the first company to take advantage of the removeable covers is called PlateStation5. It’s already offering five different color options for pre-order, with shipping promised on or before the PS5 release date of Nov. 12.

Each custom cover kit costs $39.99, with the color options including Cherry Red, Chromatic, Indigo Blue, and Limited Edition V1 Matte Black. It seems likely this is just the beginning of the color options, and I expect a few more companies to appear with their own versions in the near future. For anyone who doesn’t like the white finish of the PS5, it’s certainly good news.

By making the cover plastic so easy to remove, Sony has also allowed itself and developers the opportunity to include custom covers with game releases. It certainly holds the promise of a new option for any developer/publisher considering a Collector’s Edition for a game launch. Alongside the art book, steelbook casing, and sticker packs, a very limited edition custom cover for your PS5 is now possible.
