Ring Fit Adventure outselling Mario and Zelda in Japanese retail

Despite releasing a year ago, Ring Fit Adventure continues to be a best-seller in Japan, even beating Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.

Back when it first launched last year, Ring Fit Adventure, Nintendo’s latest attempt to get people off their sofas and exercise, proved to be a very popular title.

That popularity increased further during lockdown, when everyone was worried about not getting enough exercise, and it’s been difficult to keep in stock ever since, especially in Japan.

According to the latest sales figures Ring Fit Adventure has now shipped 1,668,843 units altogether in Japan, which is more than The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild’s 1,662,966.

Japan is the only major market that releases weekly sales figures to the public, so it’s harder to tell how the game is doing in the West but the last update from Nintendo put it at 3.9 million worldwide, compared to 18.6 million for Breath Of The Wild – which released two years earlier.

Despite what fans might imagine The Legend Of Zelda is not normally a particularly big seller, especially in Japan, and Breath Of The Wild is by the most successful entry so far.

However, Ring Fit Adventure’s lifetime sales in Japan are still dwarfed by other heavy Nintendo hitters, like Super Mario Odyssey (2,132,793) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (3,849,600), but these are still incredible stats for a year-old title.

Ring Fit Adventure is available only on Nintendo Switch.
