$250 Tesla Tequila? Sure, Why Not?

From the folks who brought you The Boring Company flamethrower and Tesla Short Shorts comes the antidote to 2020: $250 Tesla Tequila.

The small-batch drink—a 100 percent de agave tequila aƱejo— is made from “sustainably sourced highland and lowland agaves,” aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, and sold in a hand-blown glass bottle.

“Tesla Tequila features a dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish,” according to the product page, which suggests that the liquor is “best enjoyed as a sipping tequila.”

Boasting a 40 percent alcohol level and premium price tag, Tesla Tequila is “temporarily out of stock” right now on the Tesla Shop. Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2020, shipping to 31 US states and the District of Columbia. You must be 21 years or older to purchase.

What began as a 2018 April Fools’ joke has grown into yet another source of profit for Elon Musk’s electric vehicle and clean energy company. Two years ago, the entrepreneur tweeted on April 1 that “Tesla has gone completely and totally bankrupt.”

“Elon was found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by ‘Teslaquila’ bottles, the tracks of dried tears still visible on his cheeks,” Musk posted at the time, alongside a photo of himself with a handwritten “Bankwupt!” sign.

From caper to commodity, Tesla Tequila comes in a branded 750mL lightning-bolt bottle, produced by Nosotros Tequila and fulfilled by Speakeasy Co. Orders (once reopened) are limited to two bottles.
