Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War server trouble prevents offline play

Only the first of complaints from fans (pic: COD Tracker)

Some players are complaining that they can’t play Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on or offline, after the game launched last night.

With Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War out today, many players waited till the crack of midnight to jump straight into online play.

Unfortunately, those plans were completely scuppered by server issues. While online functionality for games is often problematic at launch, some players have been unable to play even offline.

The official subreddit for the game has become filled with complaints from players being told that the game is connecting to the online servers for seemingly forever.

When players decided to select the Play Offline option to at least try out the campaign, they’ve been met with the same message about connecting to the servers.

Some players blame themselves for expecting the game to work straight away, mentioning how this has been a regular problem whenever a new Call Of Duty game launches.

The problem seemed to primarily affect the PC, as there are regular complaints about the Battle.net launcher not working, whereas the console versions seem to be much less affected – although a couple of PlayStation 4 owners experienced similar problems.

One player mentions that they keep being disconnected from the Zombies mode and another says they were kicked for inactivity, despite taking part in a Search and Destroy round.

There are also still several PC users unable to access the game and asking for help, and quite a few who have already asked for a refund.

Though Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s launch has clearly been rather messy, that’s not particularly unusual and will likely soon be forgotten in a few week’s time.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
