Gran Turismo 7 release date is first half of 2021 claims new ad

An official PS5 advert suggests that the new Gran Turismo may be out a lot sooner than many fans assumed.

The Gran Turismo games have always been notorious for taking ages to arrive, but Gran Turismo 7 on the PlayStation 5 may be the first that turns up sooner than most people expected.

It’s a fairly obscure ad, shown only in French-speaking parts of Canada, but an official Sony YouTube ad clearly states that the game is Sortie prévue pour la première moitié de 2021. Which translates as, ‘Release scheduled for the first half of 2021’.

The ad was spotted by GT Planet, who point out that the car is a Porsche 917K and that the track seems to be Trial Mountain from the game’s reveal trailer.

The Official PlayStation Magazine has previously claimed that Gran Turismo 7 will be released in the PlayStation 5’s launch window, although that’s not something that’s ever been confirmed by Sony.

That generally means within the first three months of a console’s release, which would obviously include the first half of 2021.

Gran Turismo games are infamous for being repeatedly delayed though, so no matter what date Sony is currently aiming for that doesn’t necessarily mean it will hit it.

Whatever Sony’s initial plans were for the PlayStation 5’s launch they’ve been severely affected by the pandemic, with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart clearly originally intended to be a launch title.

There’s been little indication that the same is true of Gran Turismo 7 – in fact there’s been little information on the game at all – but nobody’s going to complain if it arrives sooner than imagined.
