Having one device to access all your streaming media subscriptions from is very convenient, but if that device if a Fire TV, it couldn’t access HBO Max. That changes this week.

Amazon announced that its Fire TV devices (including Fire TV Edition smart TVs and Fire tablets) now support HBO Max thanks to the launch of a new app. You can search for the app on your Fire TV, or simply ask, “Alexa, find HBO Max” assuming you have a Fire TV with the virtual assistant built-in. The app can then be downloaded and installed, after which you simply need to login to Max and start watching.

“We are very excited that Amazon customers will now be able to enjoy the best-in-class content that lives within HBO Max,” said Tony Goncalves, Head of Sales and Distribution for WarnerMedia. “Our continued goal is to make HBO Max and its unparalleled content available to customers across all the devices they love. Fire TV is a favorite among customers and we look forward to working with the Amazon team to engage and grow our existing subscriber base by showcasing all that HBO Max has to offer.”

HBO Max costs $15 a month and includes a huge catalog of popular shows and movies without any ads, but it’s pricier than competitors and there’s no 4K content. When PCMag reviewed the streaming service, we thought it was excellent, offering an impressive bundle of on-demand entertainment backed up by multiple profiles and offline downloads.

Support for HBO Max on Fire TV is timely seeing as we are heading into the holiday season and Thanksgiving next week is sure to see Amazon push its devices hard come Black Friday. Add to that a slew of new content being added to HBO Max this month, and it certainly makes for a very desirable combination to have available over the Christmas period, especially with more people staying at home due to the pandemic.
