HDMI on Xbox Series X: what you need to know

The next-gen Xbox Series X console is now available worldwide, giving a big boost to the capabilities of home consoles. Whether you’ve been lucky enough to get an Xbox Series X (or Xbox Series S) already, or are stuck waiting until Microsoft can ramp up its supply, you may well be wondering what about these consoles’ HDMI capabilities – and therefore TV capabilities – is different to its current-gen counterparts.

The Xbox Series X and Series S come with an HDMI 2.1 connection standard, which allows it to support a max 120fps (frames per second) in games running at 4K resolution. In terms of console gaming, this is a huge leap forward. The Xbox One X could only hit 4K/60fps, meaning the ceiling is far higher for this console generation.
