iPhone 'Will Get Periscope Lens In 2023'

With Apple fans breathless for news about this year’s iPhone 13 launch, analysts continue to instead offer snippets of information about the new iPhones that will be launched in 2022 and beyond.

According to a new report by the perpetually well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, quoted by MacRumors, the camera on the back of the iPhone will at some point be equipped with a ‘periscopic’ telephoto lens, but it appears this is now more likely to happen in 2023 than in the previous estimate of 2022.

According to earlier reports, the new periscope lens will offer 10x optical zoom, something that many users will enjoy. (The iPhone 12 Pro Max, the top-spec current model, offers a maximum of 5x optical zoom.) Happily, neither the phone nor the camera module will increase in thickness to accommodate this upgrade.

If the periscope lens is delayed until 2023, the big news in the 2022 models will be an improved telephoto lens with seven elements. As for the camera on the front, support for autofocus will be the big draw.

If you don’t want to wait until 2023, catch a bargain right now with our guide to the best iPhone deals.
