If you are having difficulty sending a message on Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger, or running into problems signing into Instagram, you aren’t alone: All three services seem to be down in what appears to be a widespread Facebook services outage. However, Facebook itself seems to still work.

From top to bottom: Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and Whatsapp status reports at Downdetector.

Reports of severity for the outage vary. Some of us here at Android Police are able to connect to Facebook Messenger, but reports of issues continue. The appearance of error messages between services also varies. On Instagram, the outage may manifest as a “5xx Server Error,” while WhatsApp simply shows the clock icon next to messages that aren’t being delivered.

Facebook Messenger’s symptoms vary a little more. In some cases, you may see the “Waiting For Network” error, as shown just above, but your messages themselves may go through, though that doesn’t seem to be true for everyone.

Facebook’s platform status dashboard doesn’t currently show any open issues or indicators regarding what may be happening yet.

Reports of issues are flooding in from all markets, across the US, Middle East, Europe, and Asia, and the outage does not appear to be regional.
